The State Education Department in Bihar has made a new rule that employees cannot wear jeans and t-shirts to the office. They say that this type of clothing does not fit with the office culture. The Director of the Education Department issued a statement saying that they do not approve of employees wearing casual clothes during office hours. The new rule says that all officers and employees must wear formal clothes when they come to the office. This rule starts right away.
We tried to contact the Education Minister, Chandrashekhar, for his opinion on this rule, but we couldn’t reach him. In April, the District Magistrate of Saran district also made a rule that government employees cannot wear jeans and t-shirts to work. They have to follow a formal dress code and carry ID cards. In 2019, the Bihar government also banned jeans and t-shirts in the State Secretariat to maintain a professional atmosphere. Government employees there have to wear simple, comfortable, and light-colored clothes while they are working.
