Hyderabad witnessed a mesmerizing sight in the sky—a colorful ring encircling the sun known as a 22-degree circular halo. This phenomenon occurred during the monsoon season and left onlookers in awe. People took to social media to share their experiences and stunning photographs of the phenomenon.

Scientists explained that this atmospheric phenomenon is not a rainbow, but a fortuitous alignment of particles that creates a vibrant ring. It happens when light passes through hexagonal ice crystals in high-altitude cirrus clouds, causing refraction, reflection, and dispersion. This captivating effect is also called the kaleidoscopic effect due to its ever-changing colors.

A scientist from IMD Telangana explained that the phenomenon occurs during the onset of the monsoon season, particularly when there are strong, high-level clouds in the sky. The sun positioned at the center creates a unique and captivating formation called a cloud internal storage. It is worth noting that this phenomenon appeared in the same month of 2021, adding to its allure.
