The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to raise the maximum speed limit for vehicles on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to 120 kilometres per hour (kmph) from the current limit of 100 kmph. This decision was made in a review meeting led by Minister of IT and Municipal Administration Kalvakuntla Tarakarama Rao (KTR) on Tuesday. The ORR has four lanes on each side and is an eight-lane access-controlled freeway.

The maximum speed limit in the first and second rows of the ORR has been revised to 120 kmph while the maximum speed limit in the third and fourth rows remains at 80 kmph. Arvind Kumar, the HMDA Special Chief Secretary, stated that KTR has instructed the authority to ensure that safety protocols are followed on the ORR. He also advised motorists to dial 1066 or 105910 in case of any emergency.

The decision to increase the speed limit is expected to save travel time for motorists. However, it is crucial for drivers to be aware of and follow safety rules as they drive responsibly on the ORR.
