The Minister for Culture in Hyderabad wants the Menhirs site at Mudumal to become a World Heritage Site. He has given the responsibility to the Deccan Heritage Academy Trust (DHAT) and the Department of Heritage, Telangana. An expert team has been formed to work on the project, which includes historians, archaeologists, and locals. The team will observe the site on Wednesday, which is the summer solstice. Mudumal is a unique archaeological site with 80 tall standing stones and alignment stones. It is the biggest site of its kind in South Asia and has the earliest depiction of the constellation ‘Ursa Major’. DHAT has been working on the project since November 2021 with the Department of Heritage Telangana and Narayanpet district administration.
Efforts underway in Hyderabad to secure UNESCO Heritage status for Mudumal’s Menhirs soon.
