Heatwaves | Heatwaves are sweeping across the country. The intensity of the heat in June has not decreased much, despite the passing of the month. Heatwaves are persisting in many regions. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has issued alerts that heatwaves will continue to prevail in ten states in the coming days. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana are experiencing an increase in the severity of heatwaves for three consecutive days. Bihar has declared a red alert in several districts due to the intensity of the heatwave.
Several areas in Vidarbha are experiencing severe heatwaves, while West Bengal and Jharkhand are facing even more intense heat for three consecutive days. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Western Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Western Madhya Pradesh have reported the occurrence of heatwaves for the past two days. Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Western Madhya Pradesh are witnessing heatwaves for 24 hours straight. Bihar has recorded its highest temperature in the past 11 years. Previously, continuous heatwaves were witnessed for 19 days in 2012. This time, heatwaves are persisting for 20 days.
In another incident, schools in Jharkhand have announced holidays until June 17 due to the extreme heatwave. Goa, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh have also taken precautionary measures by declaring heatwave warnings. Meanwhile, many regions in Western and Central India have the opportunity for heavy rainfall, as mentioned by the Ministry of Environment. Eastern Rajasthan has already received monsoon showers, resulting in favorable conditions for heavy rainfall. On Monday and Tuesday, rainfall is expected in Western Madhya Pradesh and Northern Uttar Pradesh. The Ministry of Environment has warned that heavy rainfall is expected in eastern states in the coming days.
