Training in Spoken English to be Provided to Govt School Teachers in Uttar Pradesh

Around 8,500 English teachers from 7,000 government and aided secondary schools in Uttar Pradesh will be trained in spoken English. The training will be provided through a 132-module course developed by the English Language Training Institute (ELTI), hosted on the Ministry of Education’s DIKSHA portal. The training will begin on June 15 and will be coordinated and monitored by joint directors and district inspectors of schools (DIOSs).

Each module of the course is about 10 minutes long and includes an assessment test that must be passed in order to move on to the next module. The course covers phonetics, basic grammar, syntax, and common errors. It follows General Indian English based on British pronunciation.

The Director General of School Education, Vijay Kiran Anand, has made the course mandatory for all English teachers. The course will be available on the portal for four months so that trainees can take it as many times as they need to improve their English-speaking skills. Field officers have been directed to submit a report on the completion status of each teacher.
