The University Contact Teachers-Joint Action Committee Telangana State (UCT-JAC-TS) is unhappy with the State government over the regularisation of contract faculty. The government had already regularised contract faculty working in government junior colleges and degree colleges in the State. The JAC argues that a precedent of similar regularisation took place in Osmania University and in other States like Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. The JAC believes that the government is discriminating against contract faculty members teaching in degree colleges. The JAC’s leaders have pointed out that there is nothing preventing the State government from regularising their services, either legally or in regulatory compliance with UGC.

Dr Ch Parandamulu believes that student interest should be paramount in the appointment or regularisation of faculty members. He also questions whether faculty members teaching different subjects and research carried out in old-fashioned ways will be able to meet the contemporary changes and standards. Dr Prandhamulu says there is a regular updating of the syllabus every four-five years, and the faculty keeps updating themselves to deliver beyond the syllabus. However, teaching and integration of social sciences, humanities, and sciences are taking place in IITs, Central Universities, National Institute of Technologies (NITs), and similar institutions.

It is unclear whether the State government’s policy on regularising contract or temporary faculty services is consistent, given its aim to make Hyderabad and Telangana a knowledge hub.
