    Indian Community in Suriname receives address from President Draupadi Murmu

    The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, spoke to the Indian community in Suriname during her visit. The Ambassador of India to Suriname, Dr Shankar Balachandran, hosted a reception in Paramaribo for the President to address the gathering. The Indian community in Suriname has been contributing to the economic, political and social development of the country and the President was proud of their achievements. She stated that India and Suriname share a special relationship that is strengthened by their shared history and heritage. The President sees the Indian community as a bridge between the two countries and hopes that they continue to work hard and strengthen this unique relationship.

    India is currently on a path of transformation, creating new infrastructure, leading in the digital economy, new technologies, climate change action and emerging as a knowledge society. India’s remarkable economic resilience is internationally recognised, and the President is ready to share India’s experiences and support Suriname in its quest for progress and development.

    During her visit to Suriname, the President also visited various places such as Lalla Rookh Museum, Arya Dewaker Mandir and Vishnu Mandir. She paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and paid respects at the monument of ‘Gevallen Helden 1902’ in Paramaribo. The President left for Belgrade, which marked the final leg of her State Visit to Suriname and Serbia.
