Osmania University has raised the fees for Ph.D courses by ten times, causing concern among scholars. The government has not yet decided on fee reimbursement. The increase affects students in Social Science, Arts, Commerce, Education and Language departments, with fees rising from Rs 2000 to Rs 20,000. Technical and Engineering course fees have increased from Rs 2,500 to Rs 25,000. Scholars feel the decision will particularly impact those from marginalised communities. Students have protested, staged a dharna in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s office, boycotted Research Methodology classes, and organised a signature campaign. The government’s release of the fee reimbursement would be helpful.
