    Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, on the 59th anniversary of his death. Gandhi was joined by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, party treasurer Pawan Bansal, and party general secretary K.C. Venugopal at Shanti Van memorial in New Delhi where they laid flowers in Nehru’s honor.

    Kharge took to Twitter to remember Nehru, quoting him saying, “You don’t change the course of history by turning the faces of portraits to the wall.” Gandhi spoke about Nehru’s contributions to India and how his legacy still influences the idea of India and values of freedom and democracy. According to Gandhi, Nehru was a fearless watchdog of democracy and his progressive ideas helped India’s social, political, and economic development despite challenges. Gandhi paid tribute to “Jawahar of Hind”, stating that India of the 21st century cannot be imagined without Nehru’s contributions.
