Former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot has requested immediate aid for the people affected by thunderstorms and heavy rain in Tonk district, Rajasthan. Pilot, who is also the Congress MLA from Tonk, wrote a letter to the state Disaster Minister Govind Meghwal, asking for a survey to evaluate the losses of families who lost their loved ones or were injured. He also urged the minister to disburse financial aid as soon as possible.
Earlier, Tonk District Collector Chinmay Gopal had announced that the victims’ families would receive Rs 4 lakhs as compensation. According to Ajmer range IG, most of the deaths on Thursday night occurred due to wall collapse. A man and his two grandchildren were killed when one portion of their house collapsed. Two villagers also died when their house collapsed. Seven of the victims were children between 5 and 14 years old.
The injured are receiving treatment in different hospitals and community health centres in Tonk, according to officials.
