Top Indian wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia are protesting in New Delhi. They are alleging that the president of the national federation, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has sexually assaulted them. Today is the one-month anniversary of their protest.
To show their support, a candlelight march has been organized from Jantar Mantar to India Gate this evening. Olympic medalist Punia has asked people to light candles at home at 5 pm. Those who cannot attend in person should post videos on social media.
This is not the first time that the wrestlers have protested. On May 19, they marched to Bangla Sahib Gurudwara in the city. Yesterday, the deadline that the wrestlers had set for Singh’s arrest passed.
Earlier today, students and faculty from Jawaharlal Nehru University joined the wrestlers’ protest march. Malik also participated in the march.
