Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded the highest civilian honors by Fiji and Papua New Guinea. In Fiji, he was awarded “The Companion of the Order of Fiji” by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, which is only given to a few non-Fijians. PM Modi has also received the highest civilian distinction from several other countries.
PM Modi dedicated the award to the people of India and the generations of the Fiji-Indian community who have contributed to the strong relationship between the two nations. He expressed his joy and dedicated the award to 140 crore Indians (1.4 billion people) and the centuries-old relationship between India and Fiji.
In Papua New Guinea, PM Modi was awarded the Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu (GCL), which is the country’s highest civilian award. The award was given in recognition of his efforts to advance the causes of the Global South and the unification of Pacific Island nations. The GCL has been given to very few non-nationals of the island country.
Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae of Papua New Guinea conferred PM Modi with the award, which was emblematic of the depth of the relationship between India and Papua New Guinea.
