Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Papua New Guinea to co-host a summit between India and 14 Pacific island countries to strengthen their relationship. Climate change is a big concern for these countries, and Modi’s eco-friendly attire inspired the leaders attending the summit. He wore a sleeveless jacket made of recycled materials during his visit, which he also did during the G7 Summit in Japan.

Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Papua New Guinea. During his visit, he released the Tamil classic ‘Thirukkural’ in the Tok Pisin language with his Papua New Guinea counterpart James Marape. This was done to bring Indian culture closer to the people of Papua New Guinea.
