Cycling is becoming more than just a way to stay fit in Hyderabad. Relief Riders, a cycling community in the city, started helping the community during the Covid pandemic by delivering food and medicine to senior citizens. Now, they have partnered with the police for night patrolling. Around 150 volunteers from Relief Riders joined hands with the Cyberabad Police to patrol the area. Cycling allows them to move slowly and interact with the public, making it easier to spot criminals and understand the problems of citizens. The patrolling helps to send a message to criminals and instill confidence in the community.
Santhana Selvan, Bicycle Mayor of Hyderabad, emphasized the benefits of cycling for patrolling. They have started night patrolling in Madhapur, Miyapur, and surrounding areas twice a month, with support from DCP Shilpavali. They plan to expand their initiative in the city and Rachakonda Commissionerate. In addition to patrolling, they also provide immediate help to citizens who need emergency medical assistance and participate in lake cleaning activities.
