    Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the G7 Summit to discuss the importance of representing the Global South. They also talked about how to work together under the G-7 and G-20 presidencies to solve global challenges. India is currently holding the presidency of the G20 grouping, while Japan chairs G7.

    The talks were productive and friendly, according to External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi. They discussed ways to cooperate under their respective presidencies and to deepen cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.

    Modi arrived in Hiroshima on Friday for the G7 Summit and a Quad leaders’ meeting. He is expected to participate in over 40 engagements while in Japan. From there, he will travel to Papua New Guinea to host the third summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) jointly with Prime Minister James Marape.

    In the final leg of his trip, Modi will visit Australia from May 22 to 24. The Quad leaders from the US, India, Australia, and Japan will discuss how they can deepen their cooperation on various issues related to the Indo-Pacific region.
