The AAP government in Delhi wants to name P K Gupta as the new chief secretary of Delhi. Gupta is an IAS officer from 1989 batch and currently holds the position of additional chief secretary in the Delhi government’s General Administration Department. The current chief secretary of Delhi, Naresh Kumar, will resign this year. This decision was made a few days after the Delhi government received executive authority in service-related affairs, including officer transfers and postings, due to a significant Supreme Court decision.

The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, has requested Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena to approve the appointment of Gupta as the new chief secretary of Delhi. Officials have said that the Centre appoints the chief secretary of Delhi because the state does not have its own cadre of IAS officers. However, AAP leaders have accused Kumar of conspiring against the government’s power subsidy program, among other things.
