A new district museum is being built in Fort Warangal, but the current state of museums in the area is not great. Even though the foundation stone for the museum was laid in 2003, it was never completed. This means that historical objects and artefacts are currently being stored in a cramped building in the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation administrative office.

The government has proposed building a new museum in Fort Warangal multiple times since then, but it has faced objections from locals and delays due to a lack of funds and a slow approach from contractors. Finally, construction started on January 6, 2015 after the Telangana government provided funding of Rs 3.26 crore. However, progress has been slow, with only minor work left to be done.

The museum will house over 1,200 objects including artefacts, coins, weapons, sculptures, and inscriptions from various dynasties, predominantly Kakatiya. The lack of a proper building and facilities has made it difficult for the current museum to attract visitors. Historians and locals are urging the authorities to take measures to start the museum in the new building as soon as possible.
