The Health Minister of Hyderabad, T Harish Rao, recently spoke about the importance of following the National Medical Commission’s guidelines for medical colleges. During a video conference to review teaching hospitals, Rao expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the healthcare sector, with Telangana now the third state in India for healthcare. To attract more students to the state, the government plans to open nine more medical colleges this year, with 100 MBBS seats each. The government is committed to providing medical colleges, doctor posts, and equipment.

Rao stressed the importance of preventing ragging and instilling discipline among MBBS students. Faculty members should serve as role models, provide mental support, and inspire students. To promote students’ well-being, Rao suggested incorporating activities like yoga and pranayama. The services of 800 Post-Graduate Senior Residents allocated to medical colleges and Vaidya Vidhana Parishad main hospitals in districts should be maximized.

According to Rao, superintendents are responsible for managing clinical hospitals and should ensure round-the-clock services, especially in emergency departments. The focus should be on providing specialized services within a district and minimizing referrals. Rao also emphasized the need to reduce C-sections and promote first-hour breastfeeding.
