The Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, G Kishan Reddy, asked the BRS government to improve their timely procurement of paddy to help farmers in the State. He also encouraged the government to increase their milling capacity to match the growing paddy production and provide paddy to FCI as per the agreed-upon action plan.

Reddy also asked the government to prevent the supply of recycled rice and requested 15 LMT of boiled rice during the 2021-22 Rabi season from Telangana. Piyush Goyal, the Consumer, Food and Civil Supplies Minister, responded that the Centre would procure 13.73 LMT of boiled rice for 2021-22 Rabi and 2022-23 Kharif seasons. The minister also mentioned that Goyal had extended the time until May 31 for procurement of rice for the 2021-22 Rabi season after Reddy’s request.

Reddy accused the State government of not being able to provide rice to FCI despite several extensions being given for procurement to meet targets.
