Additional Collector Sabawat Motilal visited the Desi Itikyala PSCE paddy procurement centre in Nagarkurnool district on Tuesday. He spoke to farmers and found out that they were facing problems with delayed paddy procurement due to untimely rains. The farmers were worried that their paddy would get wet at the market yards. The AC assured them that the government is ready to buy wet paddy and advised them to dry the grain. The AC instructed traders and millers to provide enough hamalis, gunny bags and transportation facilities for the weighed bags of grain to be transported to rice mills immediately.
The District Agriculture Officer Venkateshwar explained that this season, paddy crops have faced crop infections like fire blight, early stem rot and recent rains which has caused ‘Talu’ paddy grain. For every 100 kg of paddy, 2 kgs of Talu is being witnessed. The AC assured the farmers that the government is taking measures to ensure that they do not face any problems at the procurement centres and that any issues should be brought to the attention of concerned authorities immediately.
