Widows of Gulf victims are preparing to run in the upcoming Assembly elections. They will be filing a large number of nominations and are expected to be strong contenders in 32 constituencies affected by events in the Gulf. The Gulf Shramikula Hakkula Udyamakarulu is supporting these efforts to form new political formations in North Telangana. Discussions are being held between representatives from The Gulf JAC, Gulf Workers’ Political Forum, worker unions, people’s organizations, and intellectuals.
There are over 15 lakh laborers from Telangana working in the Gulf countries. In the last ten years, 15 lakh workers have returned home and are waiting for government assistance promised to them. They are unable to find employment. If industries were established with local resources and the agriculture sector was given a boost, the problems faced by these returnees would have been partially solved.
If the families of Gulf victims unite, they could become a one crore strong voting bloc. This large number of votes is expected to be a deciding factor in the upcoming elections. Political analysts have already informed various political parties about this potential vote bank.
