The Syro-Malabar church in Kerala, a powerful Catholic church, is against same-sex marriages becoming legal in India. They believe that it goes against natural law and the country’s strong family structure. The church also claims that children have the right to be born and grow up in a relationship that is between a man and a woman. They warn that legalizing same-sex marriage could lead to requests for the legalization of sexual diseases like physical attraction to children and animals. The church has expressed its opinions to the President of India on the issue.

The church is thankful to the federal government for opposing same-sex unions by filing a counter-affidavit before the Supreme Court. The Centre’s stance is in line with Indian culture, where a family consists of a biological man and woman, and marriage is between two people of the opposite sex. The Supreme Court is currently hearing arguments on petitions seeking legal recognition of same-sex marriage. The Centre has asked the court to dismiss the petitions seeking legal recognition for same-sex marriage, stating that the right to choose a partner does not necessarily mean the right to marry such a person above and above the procedure set forth by law.
