Erra Gangireddy, who is accused of murdering former minister YS Viveka, went to the CBI court in Nampally on Friday to surrender. The Telangana High Court had ordered him to surrender by May 5. Gangireddy was arrested in March 2019 by AP Police but was granted default bail when charges were not filed within 90 days.

YS Viveka’s daughter requested that the case be transferred to the CBI because she felt the AP police investigation was not sufficient. The CBI asked for Gangireddy’s bail to be cancelled, but the court rejected the request. The CBI then appealed to the Supreme Court, which said that default bail can be cancelled in serious crime cases if there is clear evidence.

The investigation was later transferred to Telangana and the case gained momentum. The Telangana High Court then ordered Gangireddy to surrender in the CBI court before May 5.
