The government of Hyderabad has given instructions to Qazis who work for the government to follow the limits in their appointment letter. The government has asked the Collector of Hyderabad to make sure that Qazis only work within their assigned areas. The Qazis should only perform Nikah in the areas mentioned in their appointment letter and follow the tax areas listed on it.

The government took this decision after receiving complaints about some Qazis interfering in other Qazis’ territories and misusing Section 4 of the Qazi Act. The Minority Welfare Department contacted the government to address the issue. The Secretary of the Minority Welfare Department, Ahmed Nadeem, issued a memo clarifying that Qazis appointed under Section 2 of the Act must not interfere with the boundaries of other Qazis.

The government has warned that private Qazis can be hired by the public, but Qazis appointed under Section 2 should not interfere with the boundaries of other Qazis by using Section 4. If there are any further complaints, action will be taken against them without any notice, and their services will be suspended.

The government has divided the then seven Qazi Zones and established 32 new Qazi Zones on 20 March 2022. Since then, the government has appointed new Qazis in 13 Qazi Zones by implementing GO 13. The Hyderabad Collectorate has given orders to all official Qazis in their jurisdiction to follow these rules, and any Qazi found violating them will face disciplinary action, including suspension of their services.
