Private schools in India are advertising their affiliation with prestigious boards such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Indian Certificate of Secondary Examination (ICSE) to attract parents seeking admission for their children. However, the recognition from these boards is only granted for classes from IX onwards, meaning that schools claiming to be affiliated with them for lower classes are not actually recognized by the boards. Only the state education department provides recognition for schools from LKG to class X.
The Telangana State United Teachers Federation explains that a recognized school must implement the syllabus of the board it claims to be affiliated with. The District Examination Board conducts examinations and uploads marks on the State School Education Department portal. Despite this lack of recognition, private schools still charge high fees, claiming to be affiliated with prestigious boards for branding purposes.
