Unseasonal rains and hailstorms have damaged crops in the Warangal district of India for the second time in a month. The recent rains, which lasted from Friday to Sunday, have destroyed thousands of acres of maize, paddy, mango, and other crops. Paddy stored at procurement centres has also been damaged. Reports suggest that the unseasonal rains have affected over 80,000 acres in the Warangal district in March alone. In addition to crop damage, the rains have caused power outages and uprooted trees.
The damage is most severe in the Hasanparthi, Kamalapur, Bheemadevarapally, Elkathurthy, and Dharmasagar mandals, where paddy ready for harvesting has been flattened by the unseasonal rains. The Narsampet constituency in Warangal district has also suffered hugely. The hailstorm has damaged paddy and other crops spread across 21,559 acres in Jangaon district. In Peddapahad and Vadlakonda villages, the crop damage was so severe that the Jangaon district collector had to inspect the fields personally.
The Mahabubabad district has also been hit by the unseasonal rains. Eight mandals have suffered crop damage, and heavy winds have uprooted trees and power poles. The rains have damaged crops in over 11,621 acres of land so far. Meanwhile, a heavy rain on Sunday left many colonies waterlogged in Hanumakonda.
