The UN is calling for peace in Sudan amid fighting between the national army and a rival militia. So far, 331 people have been killed and nearly 3,200 injured, including aid workers. The fighting has had a devastating impact on civilians and humanitarian aid operations across Sudan. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has lost a staff member in the conflict and has had to suspend its operations. Before the fighting began, 15.8 million people in Sudan were already in need of humanitarian assistance. The UN is calling for a three-day ceasefire to allow for humanitarian aid to be delivered. Hospitals are facing critical shortages of medical staff, supplies, and electricity, putting patients at risk. There is also a rising need for mental health and psychosocial support, especially among children.
