Almost half of the houses built under the JNNURM and Double Bedroom housing schemes in Rangareddy district remain vacant, as beneficiaries are not ready to accept them. In Kurmalguda, 3598 units were built in 225 housing blocks under the JNNURM scheme, and 1500 Double Bedroom houses were built on the same site. The houses are small, with only two rooms, a latrine, and a bathroom. Additionally, five acres of land were set aside for a hospital, a playground, and a school. Three Anganwadi centres, two community halls, and a livelihood centre were also built. However, over 50% of the houses allocated to beneficiaries remain vacant, and the structures built in the name of providing facilities such as hospitals and community centres are non-functional. The houses are uninhabitable due to inadequate water supply, electricity, and healthcare. The units built under JNNURM are too small for most beneficiaries to live in. Only people from labour backgrounds are managing to live in these dwellings.

The situation is similar in Shamshabad, Satamrai, Mankhal, and Sardarnagar areas where double bedroom houses are being built without any scope for allotment soon. Construction of houses under Rajiv GruhaKalpa in the Shamshabad area near Firangi Nala continues for years despite allotments while beneficiaries wait with bated breath. Furthermore, officials are least bothered about the cracks that have developed over the walls of the houses that remain vacant for years.
