A suspect named Asad Ahmed, who was wanted for the murder of Umesh Pal, was killed by the Uttar Pradesh Police in an encounter on Thursday. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya called it a “historic action” and said that it signals the end of the era of criminals. Asad and his accomplice Ghulam were both shot by the police’s Special Task Force team in Jhansi as they attempted to flee on a motorbike. The suspects fired at the police, resulting in their deaths. The police claimed that Asad was carrying sophisticated weapons developed abroad and had a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head. Two deputy superintendents of police were in charge of the STF squad.
