Six youngsters in Malakpet were recently caught by Hyderabad police for driving their vehicles recklessly and performing dangerous stunts on their two-wheelers just to gain popularity on social media. The police took action against them after receiving complaints and analysed CCTV footage to identify them. Three vehicles were seized from the youngsters, who were then counselled by the police about the dangers of reckless driving. Penalties for reckless driving in Hyderabad include a fine of Rs. 1000 under section 184(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act, and a fine of Rs. 1000 for those who drive a vehicle dangerously and pose a threat to others. Section 279 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) also deals with dangerous driving and imposes penalties decided by the court, which can be much more severe than those under the Motor Vehicles Act. It is important to have strict penalties for reckless and dangerous driving to discourage such behavior and prevent harm to drivers and other people on the road.
