India’s position in the United Nations has been strengthened with its recent election to the UN Statistical Commission, one of the most important subsidiary bodies of the UN. The commission is responsible for setting global statistical standards and promoting the use of reliable data to inform policy decisions. India’s membership in this commission will allow it to actively participate in shaping the global statistical agenda and promoting the use of data to achieve sustainable development goals.

In addition to the UN Statistical Commission, India has also secured membership in other significant UN subsidiary bodies, including the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Executive Board of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the Commission on Population and Development. These bodies are responsible for overseeing key areas of UN work, such as development, humanitarian assistance, and population issues. India’s participation in these bodies will enable it to contribute to important global conversations and decision-making processes.
