    Study Shows Andhra Pradesh Could Save More Than Rs 76000 Cr by Decommissioning Old Coal Plants

    A report by think tank Climate Risk Horizons has suggested that Andhra Pradesh could save over INR76,000 crore ($11.8bn) over the next decade by retiring old coal units as part of a planned energy transition. The move would still enable the state to meet its growing energy needs. The report, titled ‘Retiring to Save’, highlights three factors that make Andhra Pradesh an ideal candidate to lead the energy transition: surplus coal power capacity, extremely cheap renewables coupled with falling costs of battery storage systems and the 2025 deadline for mandatory coal plant retrofits.
