The Hyderabad City Police has recently taken action against troll channels online, booking 20 cases. It has come to the attention of the police that some young people are posting objectionable, defamatory, and insulting content on social media with morphed videos against public representatives. This is done with the intention of increasing subscribers and TRP ratings, which can lead to earning money. Such acts are a violation of various penal sections under IPC and Information Technology Act. In some cases, the accused are even posting content that harms the basic modesty of women in order to increase subscribers and likes.

The police have registered about 20 cases against the owners and uploaders of various trolling channels that are spreading objectionable, defamatory, and insulting morphed videos against public representatives. They have traced eight people and taken necessary legal action against them. Most of these “trollers” are young men between the ages of 20 to 30 years who are either studying or have dropped out from their courses. The police have warned that such attraction and craze of trolling can lead to promoting indecency and encouraging lawlessness among youth.
