The Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, K T Rama Rao, recently faced criticism from netizens regarding the progress of the Uppal and Amberpet flyovers in Hyderabad. The criticism started when KTR tweeted about the Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP) aimed at easing traffic congestion in Hyderabad. A netizen, Sandeep, asked him about the slow pace of the Uppal flyover, citing problems faced by daily commuters from Narapally. In response, KTR took a dig at the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and hinted that the Uppal and Amberpet flyovers were progressing slowly even though the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had completed land acquisition as committed. He used this to draw comparisons between the Telangana government led by his father, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, and the Union government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

However, netizens fact-checked KTR’s tweets and found fault with his claims. Prasad Peketi posted a letter written by Union Minister of Tourism and Culture G Kishan Reddy during his earlier stint as the Minister of State for Home Affairs. In the letter, Reddy had asked the CM about the Amberpet flyover, for which the Centre had sanctioned Rs 76 crore for land acquisition. However, GHMC had not yet provided compensation for land that was being acquired. Another netizen complained that the ally of BRS in GHMC Owaisi brothers-led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) was delaying the work.

Similarly, on the Uppal elevated corridor, Aleti R Sagar asked KTR not to blame others for the delay. The Uppal elevated corridor was delayed due to the concerned electricity and water works departments’ failure to shift power and water lines. Meanwhile, Amberpet flyover work was delayed due to the delay in the acquisition of properties. Sumiran KV also joined the debate, stating that land acquisition was pending from GHMC’s side, and hurdles were created by KTR’s ally MIM. Union Minister Kishan Reddy had written several letters to the State government for an early resolution.

In conclusion, the progress of the Uppal and Amberpet flyovers in Hyderabad has faced criticism from netizens, who have pointed out various issues causing delays. While KTR blamed NHAI for the slow pace, netizens have highlighted issues related to land acquisition, power and water lines, and delays caused by KTR’s own allies.
