On March 24, an Air India and Nepal Airlines aircraft came dangerously close to a mid-air collision, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. The incident occurred as a Nepal Airlines plane was flying to Kathmandu from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and an Air India plane was en route to Kathmandu from New Delhi. The pilots were alerted by warning systems and took timely action to avoid a disaster. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has requested details from Nepal authorities on the incident, and Air India has submitted a report to the DGCA. Pending further details, the crew of Air India involved in the incident has been off-rostered. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has suspended three employees of the air traffic controller department for “carelessness” during duty hours and has requested the Indian regulator to take necessary action against the guilty parties. There has been no comment from Air India on the incident.
