The Finance Minister of Telangana, T Harish Rao, recently responded to comments made by the State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bandi Sanjay, regarding the government’s decision to opt out of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). Rao pointed out that several other states, including Gujarat, have also opted out of the scheme. He noted that nearly 10 states and five union territories have opposed the scheme, as confirmed by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar in Parliament.

Rao questioned Sanjay’s demand for the implementation of PMFBY, asking why even Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state was not implementing it. The Finance Minister also highlighted that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had announced Rs 10,000/acre as relief assistance to farmers, but opposition leaders were still finding fault with it.

Rao expressed disappointment that opposition leaders like Sanjay did not understand the challenges faced by farmers. He also criticized the BJP for doubling Adani’s income instead of fulfilling their promise to double farmers’ income. The Finance Minister strongly objected to BJP leaders criticizing the government, which he said had always stood by farmers and worked to make them strong.

In conclusion, Rao defended the government’s decision to opt out of PMFBY and called on opposition leaders to support farmers instead of making contentious remarks.
