The President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, A Revanth Reddy, has expressed shock at the conviction of Rahul Gandhi, a national leader of the party, in a criminal defamation case by a court in Surat. Reddy has alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre and the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the state are misusing their power. He has also accused the BJP-led central government of conspiring against Rahul Gandhi and filing the criminal defamation case against him in connection with his speech made during an election meeting in 2019.
Reddy has made it clear that neither the Congress party nor the Gandhi family will be intimidated by such acts of PM Narendra Modi. He has stated that their party leader Rahul Gandhi is not afraid of Modi and his party and that they will appeal against the conviction in a higher court. Reddy has also emphasized that the Congress party will continue to fight for the people of the country and the state.
Regarding the recent house arrests of several state party leaders ahead of his visit to SIT’s office as a witness in the sensational TSPSC question paper leak case, Reddy has called upon proponents of democracy to condemn such arrests. He has alleged that the state police arrested several party leaders in Khammam, Warangal, and Karimnagar districts ahead of the visit of Chief Minister KCR. Reddy has questioned why there is so much suppression of opposition party leaders in Telangana and has said that the people of the state and the country will soon retaliate against the despotic rule of the TRS party and the BJP.
