The impasse in Parliament continues as both sides remain firm on their stands. A meeting of the floor leaders at the Rajya Sabha Chairman’s chamber on Thursday failed to resolve the issue. The opposition members had given a notice for the suspension of business on the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) in the Adani issue, which was rejected by Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. The Leader of the opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge, stated that the impasse could only end with the constitution of the JPC. On the other hand, the Leader of the House, Piyush Goyal, demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi on his London statement.
Dhankar suggested that both sides should hold a dialogue to end the stalemate. Earlier, the opposition leaders met at Kharge’s chamber to devise a strategy for the day. The Congress, along with other parties such as DMK, JD(U), CPI(M), MDMK, JMM, IUML, NCP, AAP, RJD, SP, CPI, KC, and RSP attended the strategy meeting.
The Congress spokesperson, Jairam Ramesh, stated that there could be no compromise on the demand for a JPC in Adani Group in exchange for Rahul Gandhi’s apology. He emphasized that the opposition would not back down from their demand for a JPC as Rahul Gandhi’s case was a matter of distortion.
