    The Mayor of Hyderabad, Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, recently held a meeting with food safety officials at the GHMC headquarters to discuss the issue of food adulteration. During the meeting, the Mayor expressed concern over the allegations made against food safety officials for neglecting to check shops in circles. She instructed officials to pay special attention to prevent food adulteration, and warned of disciplinary action against those who fail to do so.

    The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner of Health Dr Shruti Ojha, Assistant Food Controller Balaji Raju, and Gazette Food Inspector Sudarshan Reddy. Dr Ojha highlighted the issue of people falling sick due to the lack of inspection of food items sold on footpaths. She ordered officials to conduct mandatory inspections and take strict action against adulteration.

    The Mayor emphasized that food items should be checked and samples collected from all shops, including street joints, hotels, and restaurants. She directed officials to submit daily reports of inspections and samples collected by the food safety officials. The Mayor also stressed the need to make members of associations of grocery shops and other businesses aware of the importance of avoiding the sale of adulterated and substandard items.

    The Mayor further instructed officials to issue notices and suspend licenses immediately for restaurants violating rules. It is clear from the meeting that the Mayor is committed to taking strict measures to stamp out food adulteration in Hyderabad.
