Telangana Government Requests Extra Doses from Centre Amid Rising Covid Cases

Following a high-level review meeting with medical officers from all departments, Harish Rao reiterated the need for vigilance and caution. The Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had previously written to the state, urging them to adopt a five-fold strategy to effectively manage Covid-19.

Harish Rao emphasized that people should not worry but remain vigilant and encouraged those experiencing Covid symptoms such as cough, fever, and sore throat to get tested and seek adequate treatment. Telangana has been a leading example in Covid vaccination, having distributed 1.35 crore precautionary doses so far, with 1.62 crore more doses yet to be distributed.

The minister has directed officials to ensure that vaccines are available in all Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHCs). However, with the Centre not supplying enough doses, the Minister has requested that they provide more doses.

In addition, officials have been instructed to make adequate arrangements for conducting Covid tests in health centers. People with chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, kidney problems, and cancer have been advised to exercise caution.

Overall, while the state is taking necessary precautions to combat Covid, the government is emphasizing the need for people to remain calm and vigilant.
