During the Ganesh Chaturthi festival in Hyderabad, the SHE Teams arrested 996 people for behaving indecently towards women. The arrests were made around the Khairatabad Bada Ganesh Temple, a popular spot for devotees, and in other crowded areas of the city during the 11-day celebrations.
The SHE Teams are a special police unit focused on ensuring the safety of women. They caught these offenders using video and photographic evidence. Those arrested will face legal charges under Section 70(c) of the City Police Act and Section 292 of the Indian Penal Code. Offenders will be presented before a magistrate along with the evidence of their actions. In cases where video evidence was not available, some individuals were counseled and warned in front of their families.
A spokesperson for the SHE Teams said this operation sends a clear message that such behavior in public will not be tolerated. Their proactive approach shows a strong commitment to maintaining public order and women’s safety.
Citizens are urged to report any inappropriate behavior they witness. The SHE Teams and the police encourage people to dial 100 in emergencies or report incidents directly to them. Women, in particular, are advised to stay aware of their surroundings and speak out against harassment.
For help or to report incidents, you can contact the SHE Teams helpline by dialing 100 or through WhatsApp at 9490616555. The SHE Teams continue to work hard to ensure the safety of women, especially during major cultural events like Ganesh Chaturthi.
