Hyderabad: The State government has successfully conducted gram sabhas (village meetings) in 82% of villages over the past few days. Officials reported that the meetings have already taken place in 10,495 gram panchayats, with 3,197 meetings held on Thursday alone. The remaining 2,279 villages are scheduled to complete their gram sabhas on Friday.
The majority of these meetings, around 95%, were conducted peacefully. However, some unrest was reported in about 5% of the villages. Despite minor challenges, the events brought a festive atmosphere to many areas since gram sabhas were being held for the first time in a decade.
According to Panchayat Raj officials, the government aims to ensure that every eligible family benefits from these meetings. They explained that by gathering applications from people, much of the anxiety among villagers has been eased. The gram sabhas have also served as a transparent platform for identifying eligible beneficiaries without any interruptions.
The remaining gram sabhas are expected to conclude on Friday, ensuring that the State achieves its goal of reaching every village through this democratic process.
