A 68-year-old man died in Addagutta after slipping into an elevator pit on Tuesday. The man, D V Venkata Narasaiah, was visiting his relative’s apartment for a memorial service when the incident occurred.

Police suspect that Narasaiah accidentally opened a door to the elevator shaft without realizing the lift was not there. He fell into the pit, sustaining severe injuries. The lift then descended rapidly, landing on him and causing his death.

Family members searched for Narasaiah when they noticed he was missing, eventually finding him in the elevator shaft. The police have registered a case and moved the body to Gandhi Hospital morgue for a postmortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
