The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has launched a new fleet of air-conditioned electric metro luxury buses. This move aims to provide an environmentally friendly public transportation system. The service will begin on Saturday with 25 ‘Green Metro Luxury’ buses catering to the IT employees on the city’s IT corridor.
TSRTC is committed to offering enhanced and comfortable travel experiences while also promoting environmental conservation and reducing pollution. The bus services were flagged off by Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar at Gachibowli, accompanied by TSRTC chairman Bajireddy Govardhan and Managing Director VC Sajjanar.
TSRTC plans to introduce 1860 e-buses in a phased manner to provide pollution-free e-mobility in Hyderabad city. This includes 825 e-buses in 2023-24 and 1035 e-buses in 2024-25. As part of this initiative, TSRTC Greater Hyderabad Zone has launched 25 ‘Green Metro Luxury’ AC Buses in twin cities to offer passengers a pollution-free and noiseless travel experience.
V Venkateshwarlu, Executive Director of Greater Hyderabad Zone, highlighted that these Green Metro Luxury AC Buses are environmentally friendly and pollution-free. They also provide a comfortable travel experience. The buses have a range of up to 225 km on a single charge and feature 35 seating capacity with mobile charging and reading lamps on each seat. Safety measures include vehicle tracking systems, panic buttons at every seat linked to the TSRTC control room, fire detection suppression systems, and CCTV cameras with one-month backup.
The Green Metro Luxury AC buses will operate on various routes with different ticket prices. These include routes from Bachupally to Waverock, JNTU to Waverock, Secunderabad to Hitech City, Secunderabad to Kondapur, Kondapur to Secunderabad, Miyapur Metro Station to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), and Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to RGIA via Masab Tank.
TSRTC is the first corporation in India to introduce 40 12M Low Floor AC electric buses, which have been in operation since March 2019. These zero pollution electric buses, known as Pushpaks, are popular among passengers traveling from various locations in Hyderabad to RGI Airport, with around 5000 passengers using them daily.
