The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is warning people not to open manholes on city roads. To prevent accidents, safety grills have been installed over 22,000 manholes in the city. Manholes on main roads have been sealed and marked red to show they are dangerous. Each area has a team led by a sewer inspector to monitor the manholes regularly.
These teams will inspect the manholes every morning and work with the GHMC to clear rainwater. The Emergency Response Team (ERT), Monsoon Safety Team (MST), and Safety Protocol Team (SPT) vehicles have been deployed to help, and staff have been provided with protective equipment.
The vehicles are equipped with a dewatering motor and generator to remove rainwater from flooded areas in the city. Air tech machines are also available. If anyone sees a damaged or open manhole cover, they can contact HMWSSB at 155313.
