    Hyderabad:
    A total of 178 heavy vehicle drivers operating on the Nehru Outer Ring Road (ORR) attended the Free Eye Check-up Camp organized by IRB Golconda Expressway Pvt. Ltd. on the first day of the three-day event. The camp, held from November 21 to 23, 2024, aimed to promote eye health and safety among drivers.

    During the event, 138 drivers were identified as needing spectacles. These drivers were registered to receive free spectacles, sponsored by the company. The eye tests were conducted by a team of five technicians from Titan Eye Plus at the Hyderabad Goods Transport Association’s (HGTA) Training & Development Centre in Autonagar, Hyderabad.

    The spokesperson for IRB Golconda Expressway Pvt. Ltd. expressed satisfaction with the turnout, stating, “The first day’s response looks to be encouraging to meet the planned target for the first phase. We are grateful to HGTA for their support for the cause. We are confident that the initiative is proving to be of great help in creating awareness about good vision and eye healthcare in the interest of safety for all concerned.”

    In addition to the eye check-ups, a safety training program was conducted for all 178 drivers. While waiting for their turn for the tests, the drivers participated in safety training sessions that used audio-visual tools to emphasize safe driving practices.

    The free eye camp is part of the ‘Care’ and ‘Safety’ initiative launched by IRB Golconda Expressway Pvt. Ltd., a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of IRB Infrastructure Trust, India’s largest Private Infrastructure Investment Trust. The initiative was organized in collaboration with Titan Eye Plus, a Tata Group company, and HGTA at their Training and Development Institute in Vanasthalipuram, Autonagar.

    On the first day of the camp, the initiative was formally inaugurated by Mr. Praveen Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, LB Nagar. He praised the efforts of the IRB Golconda Expressway team and emphasized the importance of good vision for heavy vehicle drivers. He also encouraged drivers to undergo regular eye check-ups and wear spectacles if necessary.

    Mr. Srinivasulu, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), also attended the event. He highlighted the critical role of vision in road safety, stressing that poor eyesight could pose risks not just to drivers but to other road users as well. He urged drivers, particularly those aged 40 and above, to take advantage of such initiatives for timely detection and treatment of vision problems.
