The famous Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad is about to get a major upgrade. The state government is planning to build a 10-kilometer-long skywalk and cycling track around the lake. This project aims to improve connectivity and make the area more enjoyable for visitors. It will connect key locations like the Khairatabad Metro and MMTS stations. The design is being finalized with the help of various organizations, and the project will be done under a public-private partnership model.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has created a detailed plan to make the area around Hussain Sagar even more attractive. The Necklace Road area, which already has popular spots like Sanjeevaiah Park, Lumbini Park, NTR Garden, and Tank Bund, attracts thousands of people, especially on weekends. The new project will make visiting these places even more convenient and enjoyable.
The proposed skywalk will stretch across 10 kilometers and link important spots around the lake. It will make it easier for people to travel between locations like the Khairatabad Metro station, MMTS station, Necklace Road, IMAX, and NTR Park.
The walkway will be six meters wide and divided into two lanes—one for walking and the other for cycling. There will be entry and exit points at major landmarks, such as Khairatabad Metro, MMTS, People’s Plaza, Jal Vihar, Sanjeevaiah Park, Lumbini Park, Indira Park, and NTR Garden. To make it easy for everyone to use, elevators will be added at these access points.
The skywalk will also include fun activities and facilities. Plans include food courts, open-air theaters, gaming zones, and mini-theaters. Visitors will be able to enjoy amazing views of Hussain Sagar while walking or cycling along the path. The track is designed to be useful for morning walkers, cycling enthusiasts, and tourists alike.
The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 500 crore. To help cover these costs, the skywalk will generate revenue through ticketed entry and commercial spaces along the path. The project is part of Hyderabad’s goal to develop sustainably, offering both recreational and economic benefits to the city.
The HMDA is currently finalizing the designs and working on partnerships to start the project. To minimize environmental impact, support pillars for the skywalk will be carefully placed around the lake. Once completed, the skywalk and cycling track are expected to become a major landmark and a favorite spot for locals and tourists.
